2017 Governor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony
Mrs. Chartney’s fourth grade class was chosen to represent Edmond Public Schools at the 2017 Governor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event took place at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. The day’s activities included tree decorating, photos with Governor Fallin and State Superintendent Hofmeister, visits from Santa Claus, treats for the students, storybook reading, musical entertainment, and the Capitol Tree lighting itself! The class was be responsible for decorating one 4-foot artificial tree. The tree’s theme was selected and decorated by the students.
Senator Pugh was unable to attend the event, but wanted to share in the excitement. He visited Mrs. Chartney’s class at Ida Freeman on December 1 to answer questions and read a book. Students were able to ask questions about working in the Oklahoma State Capitol. Senator Pugh read aloud a story about his favorite former President Theodore Roosevelt. Thank you Senator Pugh for making this event even more special!
