The Ida Freeman Chess Club is the most senior and decorated student organization at Ida Freeman. Ida Chess (in school year 16/17) will be open to students in grades K through 5 and meets every Tuesday after school in the library. Chess Club participates monthly in Oklahoma Scholastic Chess Organization (OSCO) tournaments throughout the state of Oklahoma. Additionally, the Ida Chess Club annually participates in the United States Chess Federation (USCF) national elementary school championships. In addition to the close to 30 OSCO State Championships, Ida Freeman earned a national championship in the unrated section of the national tournament in 2014. Most students join Ida Chess with little to no experience playing the actual game. Ida runs a novice friendly program and invites all eligible students to participate in the weekly club meetings.
